Obama Blames U.S. Consulate Employee Murder in Mexico

Armed group shot dead an employee of the United States consulate (USA) and her husband in Mexico. The murder took place when they were in the car with their baby.

The shooting occurred just minutes after the husband of a U.S. consulate other employees shot to death and two children injured.

Mexican security forces suspect the murder was carried out drug gangs. It is not clear what their motive.

The White House said U.S. President Barack Obama is very sad and angry over the murder.

"He (Obama) expressed sorrow for the family and condemned the attack on the consulate and diplomatic personnel who work in our overseas missions," the White House statement.

"Together with Mexican authorities, we will work tirelessly to bring the killers to justice," added the White House as reported by AFP news agency on Monday (15.3.2010).

U.S. couples who were killed are identified as an employee of the U.S. consulate, Lesley A. Enriquez (35) and her husband Arthur H. Redelfs (34). Lesley was killed by gunshot wounds in the head while her husband got shot in the neck and arms. Their babies in the back seat survived without injury. He was about 1 year.

A few minutes before the murder, Mexican police also found the body of the husband of a consulate employee AS.Jorge Alberto Salcido Ceniceros (37), a Mexican citizen was shot dead in his car. Meanwhile, two children aged 4 years and 7 years old were injured and are currently being treated in hospital.

Mexican President Felipe Calderon promised to investigate immediately. Mexican police do not provide information about possible motive attack.

But a spokesman for the U.S. State Department said Fred Lash, a third of the dead have attended the same social event before the attack on Saturday, March 13 local time is.

Several U.S. citizens have been killed in drug war in Mexico. Most of them are people who have family ties with Mexico. But very rarely the U.S. government officials became the target of attacks.
